SL: No, I've only had an agent for a year. I don't think it's essential to have an agent, although more and more publishers are accepting work only from agents, so it does help to have one. And, the agent is much better at negotiating contracts than most writers are, so that's another plus to having an agent. My advice would be to focus on your writing first, though, then you'll have better luck finding an agent.

11.SR: Please finish this statement, "If I could change one thing about my writing career it would be...be to focus more on fiction now and less on nonfiction. And, that's exactly what I'm starting to do.
