1.SR: Suzanne,is there anyone from your childhood who influenced, inspired or encouraged you in your writing endeavors?
SL: My parents read many, many books when I was a child. I remember going to the library with my mom and coming home with armloads of books that she would stack on a table next to her bed so she could read them at night, as well as other books she would read to me. In the evenings, my father was always on the living room couch with a book in his hands. So, books always seemed pretty important to me. Then, my fifth grade teacher used to let us write plays and act them out in class. I wrote a few plays (I had no idea what I was doing, of course) and my friends and I acted them out and the class loved them. I got hooked on the applause. Later, in high school, I wrote stories and so did some of my friends, and we would read them aloud to the rest of the class before school started. It was amazing how interested everyone was in our stories. I felt that writing held a certain kind of magic.
2.SR: How did you get interested in writing and writing for children?
SL: I've always loved to write (as you found out from my answer to your previous question). I started writing things for children after my two sons were born
