DVD Picks: Melody of Oblivion Volume 1

I have to admit each episode surprised me; they were never quite what I expected. The story has a strange, haunting quality that is enhanced by the music and the method of storytelling. There's a surrealistic quality to it at times that reminded me of Revolutionary Girl Utena except for the gender change for the main character. I am intrigued to see where the Melody will progress from here.

Although in my first review I gave a four out of five kendo sword rating, I've since realized that a five sword rating system was too much of a blanket rating. I will from now on use a rating out of ten swords in order to allow for the diversity to be reflected. Melody of Oblivion Volume 1 rates a solid 7.5/10 kendo swords; this is one to watch for as it keeps you guessing.

The Melody of Oblivion volume 1, containing episodes 1 to 4, is available June 14th.
