DVD Peeks: Star Ocean, Tenjho Tenge, Ultramaniac

Here's some info on new releases from anime distributor Geneon Entertainment. They are almost guaranteeably not family entertainment (even if they're only "7 up"), but their plot summaries are here in my column anyway, because they sent me screeners.

Star Ocean EX -  Dragon's Teeth

US$29.98, 125 min, 13 UP

Their quest to find the Sorcery Globe takes Claude, Rena and Celine to Port Harley. However, before they can arrive, they are sidetracked by an encounter with Ashton, a swordsman who single-handedly faced a hideous two-headed dragon, but wound up attached to the beast! Claude and his fellow adventurers decide to help Ashton and must face numerous bloodthirsty creatures on their odyssey including the beautiful alien named Opera, Demon Bird Jean and a cursed ghost ship!

Based on the Sony Playstation game, Star Ocean The Second Story (tri-Ace Inc., SQUARE ENIX), Star Ocean Ex is now reborn as an animated series featuring series concepts developed by Kenichi Kanemaki (writer for Agent Aika, Ai Yori Aoshi), directed by Hiroshi Watanabe (Slayers Movie, Bandit King Jing, Orphen) and with animation by Studio Deen (You're Under Arrest, Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X).

Tenjho Tenge -  (V.1) Round One

Souichiro and Bob want to rule their new school, but just as they begin cracking heads, their plan is shot to h*ll. First there's the Natsume sisters and their Juuken Club. If the older sister, Maya, isn't kicking their a**, then the younger sister, Aya, is trying to force feed Souichiro and make him her husband. Then there's the Student Executive Council that sends executioners to "educate" anyone who questions the council's authority! Their education is just beginning!

Ultramaniac -  (V.1) Magical Girl
US$24.98, 100 min, 13 UP

Ayu Tetsushi is in her second year of junior high school and is known as the cool popular tennis club girl that all the other girls idolize. To tell the truth, Ayu only acts cool in order to impress Tetsushi Kaji of the school baseball club. Then, one day, Ayu meets Nina Sakura, a transfer student who had found Ayu's missing purse. Nina's strange personality had left Ayu a little perplexed. Furthermore, Ayu finds out that Nina is a witch that came from the kingdom of magic to study abroad. This is a story of one girl's hope of love and another girl's study of magic and their friendship to overcome the challenges set before them. Get ready for the ultra-cool, ultra-funny, ultra-romantic Ultramaniac!
