DVD Peeks: Texhnolyze, Fighting Spirit, Popotan
Definetly not recommended for kids and/or families, here's some anime DVDs sent to me by Geneon Entertainment, completely against my wishes.
Popotan: Enigma
Want sexy humour from bug-eyed, underage girls in a traveling house, congrats. Popotan: Enigma, volune 2 in its series, was released to English-language DVD February 22, 2005 from Geneon Entertainment.
Again, the writers show the characters in comprimising situations, if only to just raise eyebrows and other body parts. For example one of the sisters and the maid don't manage to get home before their house moves to another dimension. Interesting premise, but then they waste the rest of the episode dawdling in town, then spa-hopping.
Again writer Jukki Hanada (Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful), production Studio SHAFT (Mahoromatic), and firecotr Shiniciro Kimura (Sugar, Hand Maid May).
Spa-hopping... I wonder if that's a real term, or if I can trademark it?
Fighting Spirit Volume 4: Dream Of A.K.O.
Ippo and Takamura watch Mikata's bout- his second fight in the Eastern Japan Rookie Championship Tournament. Contrary to everyone's expectations, Miyata poses as an in-fighter. It is a decisive changein style, in anticipation of the bout with Ippo! His lightning-fast counter takes his opponent down with ease. Miyata is unstoppable now, prompting Ippo to train harder. With the help of Takamura and the Kamogawa Gym's gang, Ippo labours to conquer his weaknesses and prepares himself for his next opponent, Kobashi. Nobody thinks Kobashi would be a serious threat to Ippo, but Kobashi has a clever plot. If he pulls it off, Ippo won't be able to win by points. He must K.O. Kobashi to win! Five episodes in Japanese, English, and Spanish. (115 min, 13 up, US$29.98, dubbing outtakes and bloopers)
Texhnolyze Volume 6: Death & Serenity
Those who yield to madness and those who fight against it; those who end their lives, as if there's no escaping it. Men who carried on their own way of live lived in Lukuss, a place where death and serenity ruled. The king of the new world took his throne, and the girl, who was tossed about by fate, ended her mission. Was there a reason for the battle fought by these men of honour? (Was there a reason Geneon worded this synopsis for me by waxing lyrical? - ed.) A horrible demise approaches. Three episodes in Japanese and English. Opening theme by Juno Reactor, ending theme by J-pop heartthrob GACKT. (75 min, 16 up, US$29.98, dubbing outtakes and bloopers, limited edition "lenticular insert" feature ABe artwork)
