Box Office Sneak Peak 2005

Here's some a heads-up on some of the upcoming family-friendly feature films, set to hit theatres or begin production this year. This list may tend to look animated heavy, and quite frankly it is, simply because most information on the Internet is about these pictures.

...Baby Geniuses + The Mask
Yes, that mysterious mask that Jim Carrey tried to destroy in 1995 is back with a vengance. This time, the mask gets on a baby, a dog, and Jamie Kennedy (hidden camera show JKX). Son of the Mask is rated PG.

In theatres February 18

...a WWII pigeon
No that they've all but lost the rights to distribute Pixar's animation, Disney has teamed up with Britain's Vanguard Animation. Vanguard's first CGI animated picture for Disney is Valiant, the story of a WWII messenger pigeon. The movie will now be released in the US on April 15th, which means it will be hitting 3000+ screens earlier than expected.

In theatres April 15th

...the curse of the dreaded wererabbit
In September DreamWorks will distribute the first feature film of Wallace and Gromit, a comedic duo that has starred in a series of shorts and featurettes. Created by Aardman Animation, Wallace & Gromit: Curse of The Wererabbit will feature the voices of Peter Sallis, Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes, along with Wallace, his dog Gromit, and likely some "crackin' toast".

In theatres September

...no wardrobe malfunctions here
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe with Nicole Kidman is nearing the end of production. Recently, the voice of Aslan was announced to be Brian Cox (X2, the original Dr. Hannibal Lecktor in Manhunter). The movie seems to be going along smoothly, so it's unlikely that there will be a Wardrobe malfunction.

In theatres December 9

...more Pirates
Two sequels to Pirates of the Caribbean are in development. We already knew Johnny Depp would only agree to star in the first of Jerry Bruckheimer's sequels, to be filmed back to back. But now Geoffrey Rush claims he hasn't even been formally approached to appear in either, contrary to popular belief on the Internet.

Meanwhile, the bearded, gentle giant Survivor Rupert Boneham revealed that he's been contacted to do a cameo in Pirates 2. The troubled-youth-counselor-turned-reality-star was on a radio show called Bob and Tom AM when he decided to spill the beans.

Also, no more word on the rumoured Pirates TV series.

In theatres in 2006

...private eye Dylan the Dog
In March, Vancouver Canada's The Shop Animation Studios is going to start producing a CG animated movie
