Leo and the Lions Gate, awards for Studio BWith a long list of professional accolades, Vancouver's Studio B Productions is one of the most applauded names in the industry. Three more awards have been added in June, both acknowledging the results studio's amazing efforts in the kids TV industry. The Leo Awards Awarded to the best and brightest film and television talent and programs in British Columbia, the Leo Awards are similar in nature to the Regional Emmy Awards south of the border. While this may seem minor at first glance, the misconcept is quickly cleared by the facts. Over 15,000 jobs in the province are dependant on the film and television industry, which generated over CAN$1 billion in economic activity in 2001. But on with Studio B. Last weekend's Leo Awards gave Yvon of the Yukon (YTV, BBC, Nick Australia) two awards, Blair Peters, Chris Bartleman, and Alia Nakashima accepted the award for Best Youth or Children's Program or Series, while Greg Sullivan took home the hardware for Best Direction in a Youth or Children's Program or Series for the musical episode "A Beautiful Day to be French".
Lions Gate Innovative Producer Award
An annual commendation to the innovators and entrepreneurs of the Canadian television industry, this award could almost have been created with the duo in mind. All along, the studio's founders knew that with passion, determination and talent you can produce internationally acclaimed, award-winning quality children's shows from Vancouver. Bartleman and Peters' staunch belief in their show, their animators and their staff has been paying off. In this, their 15th anniversary year, Studio B is set to release the first season of Being Ian (26 episodes) on YTV.
