Cereal prizes to be cartoon episodes VideoBusinessOnline is reporting that General Mills will run a DVD promotion from June until August. Specially-marked boxes will include a DVD with titles from DiC Entertainment. They include Strawberry Shortcake, Madeline, Liberty's Kids, Inspector Gadget, Gadget Boy, Sabrina: The Animated Series, Super Mario Bros., and Heathcliff. Liberty's Kids marches to DVD Ten-Stike Home Entertainment has acquired the exclusive US distribution rights to PBS and DiC's animated series Liberty's Kids. Available on DVD June 29, it will feature interviews with broadcaster Walter Cronkite, voice on Ben Franklin, behind the scenes footage, cast information, and interactive games. Pokemon's last hurrah? Eight years since its original Japanese launch, Pokemon seems to be heading into its final stretch. The sixth in the series of films, Pokemon: Jirachi Wish Maker, will bypass the cinema's screens, headed direct-to-video June 1. Interestingly enough, it appears Warner Brothers is ending its relationship with the franchise, as distribution rights were sold off to Disney subsidiary Miramax. Selling for $24.99 on DVD, its actually "a pretty entertaining movie for Pokemon fans", according to DVD Talk, at least. Meowth to wrestle beavers? A 45-second interview on the Pokemon: Jirachi Wish Maker DVD has director Yayama saying that he's currently on vacation, er, I mean scouting locations, for the seventh Pokemon movie. Want to win The Simpsons, Season Four on DVD? Head on over to DVD Toons, which is offering three copies to be won. Released in stores June 15, the boxed set includes all the usuals, including commentary (some of which is by then-writer/producer Conan O'Brien), animatics, commercials, deleted scenes. Shrek to remain predictable at best Instead of trying to one up the special features of the original Shrek DVD, number 2 just rehashes, but under with a licensed parody. According to the New York Post, and they're always right, American Idol will visit the swamp on the DVD. Among other things, Larry King's Ugly Stepsister will sing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". The scene was previewed on the seventh, when King accepted the We Are Family Foundation's Humanitarian Award at Studio 54. Studios really hate VHS If you were a home entertainment distributor, you'd not want to release two unique viewing formats forever. But the king of previews, Disney, is evidently really serious about fazing VHS out as quick as it can. Despite the great tradition of 8-12 minutes worth of trailers in front of Disney home videos, the teaser trailer for next summer's feature Chicken Little is only available on the DVD of Brother Bear, and not the VHS.
