DVD Picks: June 2004

Little late in the month, but hey... July's best are coming to you tomorrow, though.

June 1	Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: Trackers, Columbia Just in time for the release of a live action sequel to the forgettable sci-fi film, this animated take is part of the series Roughnecks, which most consider to be a more truthful adaptation of the classic Starship Troopers novel. Pokemon: Jirachi Wish Maker, Disney Odd to see Disney's Miramax, a generally dramatically oriented company be the distributor for this direct-to-video feature, the seventh in the Pokemon series. McCay pioneered the medium, creating Gertie the Dinosaur, the first animated character with an actual identifiable personality.
June 15	Braceface: Brace Yourself, funimation Sharon Spitz (Alicia Silverstone) has brace. But these aren't just your ordinary braces, they've got special powers, which go awry at just the wrong time. Teacher's Pet, Disney It's a twist on Pinocchio, as Spot (Nathan Lane) continues on his quest to become a real boy, not just an anthropomorphic dog. The Simpsons: Season 4, Fox In this season, Homer starts to become more of a three-dimensional character (as far as that goes), doing more than just constantly strangling Bart. June 29	Garfield as Himself, Fox With the fat cat 3D and in theatres for a few weeks, this DVD compiles some of the fairly memorable animated specials from the 80s. Pass the lasagna!
