| The Hebrew Academy's basketball team is absolutely winless,
not a hope in the world of winning.
But somehow, the "athletically-challenged" team of boys manage to convince
a former college basketball star to coach their washed up team. Inspired by the true story of University of Virginia basketball star Lamont Carr, "Full Court Miracle" is an inspiring new Disney Channel telefilm, making its Canadian Television Premiere on Family on Friday, April 2 at 7:30 pm with encore presentations on Sunday, April 4 at noon and Monday, April 12 (Easter Monday) at 11:50 am, all times ET/PT. The sole driving force for the Hebrew Academy Lions is the young Alex Schlotsky. Alex desperately wants to play in the championship game, but only a miracle could ever pull his team out of the deep gutter they've fallen into.
Through a quirk of fate, Schlotsky meets Lamont Carr on the court at
an after-school practice, convincing Lamont to coach the Lions. Broke,
and living in his car, Carr sees no reason not to. You see, while our tragic
hero was a college star, he suffered a knee injury, hindering his participation
in the NBA.
At school, Alex and friends learn of the miraculous Chanukah story of
Judah Maccabee who, along with his four brothers, organized a group of
resistance fighters known as the Maccabees. After defeating their opponents
and reclaiming the temple, there was only enough oil to light the Temple's
eternal light, known as the N'er Tamid, for one day. The Maccabees lit
the oil lamp and miraculously it burned for not one, but eight days, by which time more oil had been produced. Symbolically, the Chanukah menorah
has eight candles and its tradition proclaims the message, Not by might, not by power, but by My spirit.
Finding similarities in Judah and Lamont's life, the boys believe Lamont might be Judah's reincarnation. Surely he'll lead their team to victory! Lamont builds the team, while struggling to build himself. All the while, two distinct cultures come together in a comedic and touching way.
