Halloween on TV -- A Schedule of Shows
This column will expand, as I can confirm more Halloween-themed program airings.
October 4th
- "Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire" airs on Canada's Teletoon. Jinkies!October 7th
9:00 pm - Canada's Teletoon airs the cult movie "Beetlejuice" (1988). By that, I mean it has a "cult following," it doesn't actually have any real relation to cults. Bad term to use with Halloween movies. I guess.Adam and Barbara Maitland (Baldwin and Davis) are a nice young couple whose lives revolve around their beautiful New England home. After a fatal accident, their idyllic existence is suddenly changed to a confusing afterlife. At first it looks like they will be able to live out eternity puttering around their beloved home, but then the Deetzes purchase their house and move in. As the Deetzes begin to renovate and re-decorate their space, the Maitlands grow increasingly upset and finally appeal to Beetlejuice (Keaton), a "freelance bio-exorcist" who hurls one-liners, spins into grotesque forms, gobbles insects and just can't leave the ladies (living or dead) alone.
Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder. Directed by the creep master himself, Tim Burton. Repeats on Halloween. Also on YTV on the 18th.
October 11th
8:00 pm - In the live-action "Addams Family Reunion" movie, the Addams family attends a reunion to help cure Grandpa and Grandma Harris of the dreaded Waltzheimer's Disease. However, a computer mix up has them attending the reunion of the Adams family, an ultra conservative, annoyingly cheerful group of people. Starring Tim Curry and Darryl Hannah.- "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" airs on Canada's Teletoon. Jinkies!
October 12th
8:00 pm - Repeat - "Addams Family Reunion," the Addams family accidentally attend the Adams family reunion.October 15th
9:00 pm - A cute, furry little pet spawns thousands of fuzzy "Gremlins" (1984) who attack innocent teen Billy Peltzer's (Zach Galligan) home town. He and his pal Kate (Phoebe Cates) must stop the mayhem before the town is devoured in this Steven Spielberg comedy. Repeated on Halloween.October 18th
12:00 pm - A 1993 animated feature starring the voice talents of Leonard Nimoy, Alex Greenwald, Edan Gross and Andrew Keegan is "The Halloween Tree" (1993, CC). Based on a "novella" by Ray Bradbury, the most terrifying person in the world, Carapace Clavicle Moundshroud, whisks four trick-or-treater into a journey through time and space, to discover how Halloween has been celebrated in history, and how it is celebrated across the world. Repeat on Sunday.1:10 pm - A classic 1979 animated special, "The Casper Halloween Special" has the Friendly Ghost attempting to blend in with all the other boys and girls on Halloween night by going trick-or-treating in a baseball cap and mask. Hairy Scary and the gang excitedly plan all the tricks they will play on people that the kids in costume will get blamed for. Repeat on Halloween.
