A multi-platform sign-language show, 101 little woof-woofs, Daffy Duck in space, and bird playing baseball. Also, a unique three network block. For the 18+ crowd, a surreal comedic soap opera. If any of the channels seem unfamiliar, check out the first article in this series for a channel guide. If you‘re unsure of what age is appropriate for any of the shows, contact me, post a message on the board below, or visit the appropriate channel's website.
deafplanet.com - Saturdays at noon on TVO, starts September 6
Produced by marblemedia in partnership with TVO and the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf, this is "the first cross-platform television and web property for Deaf and hearing children that is created entirely in American Sign Language (ASL)." While goofing around in a museum rocket display, our hero Max, manages to launch himself into space. After a giddy ride, he crashes into the home of Kendra, a Deaf teenager, and an inhabitant of Deaf-Planet. Max is at first confused by the sign language used on the planet, but is helped by his ship's Wondrous, Indispensable Language Machine (WILMA). Kendra promises to get Max back home with the help of the many wise and eccentric inhabitants of Deaf Planet. For kids 7-12 years old. The DIC Kids Network - Weekdays on many local Fox/UPN/WB affiliates, starts September 1
Though none of its programs are new to the US, by any extent, this is a unique concept, worth mention. Expect to see a three-hour line-up on either your local Fox, UPN, or WB affiliate. As I take it, the line-up is of "Sabrina," "Sherlock Holmes," "The Archie's," "Stargate Infinity," and "The Littles". Inspector Gadget will deliver short public service messages on health and nutrition. The line-up was picked up by all three channels in some areas, sort of a monopoly. Latinos can switch to an SAP audio feed, and get dubbed versions of all the programs. Disney's 101 Dalmatians: The Series - Weekdays at 8:30 am and 1:25 pm EST/PST on Family Channel
It's a fun series, that starts as the Dearlys, Roger and Anita, head off to their Dalmatian Plantation in the country-side. The 99 puppies now live on the farm, near Cruella De Vil's mansion, the adventures on the farm and against Cruella are always funny. It stars Lucky, Rolly, and Cadpig, whose names might be familiar from the original animated film, as well as Spot the chicken. Not a new show, but its new to this generation, and to Family Channel.
