Who Are the Rescue Heroes?

Starting in April we have non-stop birthday parties until July. Unfortunately these are kids who don't appreciate cards, cash, or checks as much as teenagers and adults do. We have to beat feet to the store and find some GOOD toys. Ones that will keep their attention, be good for their imaginations, and maybe teach them something along the way. For the handful of children that fall between 3 and 7, Rescue Heroes were the solution.

Rescue Heroes originated as a cartoon in 1999. From the series Fisher Price developed video games, books, and of course, action figures. These action figures have been specifically designed for the younger child. A tricky, albeit genius, direction for the toy company to go.

Rescue Heroes come in large, sturdy plastic. Six inches tall and four inches wide, they were designed with little hands in mind. The oversized feet stabilize the figures when they are on their own, making playing with multiple figures even more enjoyable.

Each figure represents a real life profession, and all come together to promote safety and save lives. One thing parents really enjoy is the fact that minorities are represented fairly. This is not the typical white male role model toy. The fact that women are a part of Rescue Heroes may be one reason why the toys are so popular to both boys and girls.

Kids love the figures because, well, they are too totally cool! =) Each figure has it's own accessory. For example, Smokey the fire dog has a ladder and Rip Rockefeller has a front loader shovel. The arms and legs move to make play more realistic, and the "Voice Tech" Rescue Heroes speak.

There are also main accessories such as a command center, and fire truck. That is not where Rescue Heroes end however. There are videos of the TV series, books, and video/computer games that round out the characters.

To date there are six Rescue Hero books, aimed at children 4 - 8 years old. Topics range from big city to island rescue. They are moderately priced at $7, and have received high reviews from parents and children alike.

To date there are also 3 video/computer games, with a third to be released in mid-August. Whether you are using a Windows based computer, a Macintosh, a Gambia or Playstation you have access to Rescue Heroes. Most games are sold with the 6 year and up label, with a notice of cartoon violence.
