SHARON LOIS AND BRAM© Jacqueline McMahon
SHARON, LOIS AND BRAM
Many will remember the Canadian group from their popular television series, “The Elephant Show”, which aired 65 episodes spanning a decade. They also toured, performing live concerts to huge audiences of kids and families. They have become a phenomenon in the world of children’s entertainers. Their eclectic musical style includes everything from “Animal Crackers in my Soup” (a Shirley Temple hit) to “Papa Loves Mambo” (not the usual style choice for kid’s music) to old standards like folk songs to music in today’s pop styles. They offer music that appeals to so many different tastes that there has to be something for everyone in their repertoire. But Sharon, Lois and Bram also have their sights on educating their viewers in the many different musical genres. It is their vision to introduce children to music from the past (folk songs and old standards), music from movies and musicals (My Best Girl – MAME, Getting to Know you – THE KING & I), popular groups of the recent past (The Beatles, John Denver) as well as their own original creations. As with most children’s entertainers, their music provides an element of fun that invites active participation. Repetition and kid-friendly lyrics account for the popularity of their songs, but parents and teachers will appreciate what their music teaches their young listeners. Waltz to polka, mambo to swing…it’s all there! So shy is Skinamarink T.V. something new for the trio? Using their music as a basis for each episode, this new television program also offers skits that are inspired by the typical fare offered on t.v. these days (cooking shows, exercise shows, news, sitcoms, movies etc.) But one thread weaves it all together…humor. The multi talented group sings, dances, tells jokes and portrays all the wonderful and wacky characters appearing in the different skits of Skinamarink T.V. The entertainment they provide produces a delightful, fun, show that parents love to watch with their kids. It’s a great way for families to participate in some quality time together. What accounts then, for the group’s continued popularity? They are adults who aren’t afraid to have fun and act silly. It appears, when they perform, that there’s nothing they’d rather do than entertain kids and their families. Their sense of humor is apparent in their antics but it their energy and enthusiasm that win the hearts of their young fans. Go To Page: 1 2
