Reading and Running AwayMrs. Frankweiler, I felt, must have known everything. After all, as Jamie and Claudia discovered, she had files and files piled full of facts and secrets which only she could decipher. The provenance of the suspected sculpture by Michelangelo had been only the tip of the iceberg! Not too long after I decided to be like Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, an idea struck me which has changed the direction of my life. I couldn't have been much older than 8 or 9, but it has persisted to this day, even though I still keep files of facts and fancies. Rather than being like Mrs. Frankweiler, I would go even one better, I would be like E.L. Konigsburg! I would be a writer, and not just any writer, a published author, a children's author. This dream, this passion, remains with me, nurtured and wrapped up tightly with a love of reading and a zest for books. I encourage you to not only read books, but to touch them, smell them, absorb them. Let the story and the words move you. It may just change your life!
