Feeling Down, Try BROH

BROH is an acronym that stand for "Brains Running Old Habits'. Vivien says that the whole trick is to remind yourself that the old habits are not you. Once you've separated your send of self from those bad thoughts, they gradually disappear through lack of interest.

"They're just old patterns in the brain, like an irritating tune on your head."

The BROH trick comes from the understanding that the 'weepies' always come with bad thoughts and that those thoughts are nothing but old brain habits. "My depression was a problem with my brain and not with my soul, my inner being, or me. What was happening was that my self-image was reinforcing them in a feedback loop."

Temperment is probably one of the biggest factors that can cause depression. For someone who gets upset easily and then finds themselves going over the incident over and over again, the BROH insight is what you need. Every temperment has its plus points, however. For example, if you've got a short temper, you've probably got energy to spare, a capacity to make quick decisions, and a lot of creative potential, says Vivien.

BROH is an idea whose time has come, says Vivien, and will appear in depressed communities in all sorts of forms. I just put an acronym on it.

At the Happy Red Box, there are links to other helpful sites in dealing with depression. She also devotes a section of her web site to spirituality, using the element of Tai Chi and other activities of relaxation and enjoyment that she does in her spare time. There is a more detailed explanation of the BROH trick at the site also.

This is the first site of more to come. Vivien plans to add more helpful information to the site in the near future and hope to gain widespread usage of her newly found, BROH trick. Vivien welcomes all comments and would like to hear about other experiences with the BROH trick.
