Our young babies go through the worst, don't you think? I know of other parents, like myself, that have been through life-threatening condition with their children. And each day presents a new problem or worry.

Baby Tooth Decay is something I haven't thought about, but is quite newsworthy. Baby Tooth Decay is the most common disease found in young children and is the leading dental problem for children under 3, according to Centers for Disease Control.

Decay is caused by germs and sugars from foods and liquids like fruit juices and formula, just about any sweetened liquid. What happens is that the bacteria dissolves the enamel, damaging that area of the tooth and usually cause a cavity. Cavities can be prevented by regular brushing.

The primary teeth are at risk of decay as soon as they come out. A baby's teeth usually come in at about four to six months-old. The growth continues until all 20 have come out at 2 1/2 years old.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends the following to prevent tooth decay: 1. Don't let baby fall asleep with bottle of sweet liquid. 2. Give baby a bottle of cool water in between feedings instead of fruit juices. 3. Make sure child's pacifier is clean and never dip it into a sweet liquid. 4. Wean your baby off the bottle by using a sip cup when baby reaches a year old. Babies should stop drinking from a bottle as soon as first birthday.
