Brown shares many childfree individuals' viewpoint in saying, "I have been reading and participating in online discussions about the childfree for the last two years. When I first stumbled upon alt.support.childfree, I felt like I had finally found my home. I was not alone. I was not a freak. There were others out there who felt the same way as I do. It was a revelation, and an eye opener. As time went on I discovered that there were many other childfree sites, and we are growing. Once I realized how many of us there are, and how we are being treated, I was outraged, and disappointed. We have made so many strides in the last few years for equality, yet the childfree have been left out. We are treated like second class citizens." And the thirty-year-old Brown adds, "I guess the main reason I want to get NACC off the ground is because we need it. We need a voice for the childfree community. We need a place/organization that will be willing to fight for the childfree. I am tired of the perks, legislation, and accolades that parents receive, while the childfree are shunned. We are a growing minority, and we need a place to come together to let our voices be heard. NACC will be the place for the childfree to come for support, comfort, and alliance." In conclusion Brown said, "My personal goal is to see NACC as not only an organization that a childfree person can join to be kept up to date on current events, pending legislation, and as a solidified childfree voice in the world. But I would also like to see it grow as an outreach organization for social and educational programs as well. There is a large percentage of the population that have chosen to be childfree. I think that the childfree community will grow in the years to come. I want a safe haven for them to turn to, to realize that they do have a choice and they are not alone. We are just taking the first steps to achieve these goals, but I do think that one day it will become a reality." I hope all the childfree who read this will try to get involved in this worthwhile project, in one way or another. It's certainly time we all made our voices heard -- and try to organize and defend our rights. Go To Page: 1 2
