A childfree woman living in Australia recommended, "Discovery beach on the Queensland coast has a strict no under age eighteen policy. Lynch's restaurant in Melbourne, despite being taken to court over it's no-baby policy has a no under age twelve policy. Bederra and Hamilton islands in the Whitsundays do not encourage children."

Maria, another childfree, said, "I work at a beautiful spa here in lovely New England that does not allow children (anyone under seventeen) to use the spa facilities and just put out a memo disallowing employees to bring their children to work. It's a fabulous place - and the Inn is stunning, too."

While doing research on this article, I found at least one lodging in every American state that either disallowed children, or permitted only those above certain ages. Therefore, there might be one near you, or within a short driving distance -- and sometimes rates are reduced during the holiday season. I believe with a little diligence and persistence in research it's possible to find accommodations that would please the most discerning childfree people.

As to other holiday alternatives, Karen said, "We have been doing Christmas these last few years with a slowly developing circle of childfree friends which has been nice. I hope you recommend hosting a childfree dinner as an option to dealing with the usual family holiday festivities." Look into No Kidding! to see if there's a local chapter near you, and begin now to form a new circle of likeminded friends.

And lastly, around Christmas there's always new movies released. Most theaters are open on Christmas afternoon, and enjoying a good movie on the big screen can indeed be a great escape from the usual family-oriented activities. Be sure to choose a movie rating that disallows children though -- or rent some good videos and enjoy those at home.

One final note: A recent article at the USA Today website had some excellent links for holiday escapes, although not all of these specify being childfree. But you might want to look at their suggestions:
