Saying Goodbye to SummerThe dog days of summer are upon us and quickly passing. Here are some ideas for summer fun, or an end of the summer beach party. Make a beach. Use your sand and water table, or other container. Fill it with sand, seashells, and beach toys. The kids will have hours of fun pouring, measuring, digging and filling things with sand. Have a car wash. Fill buckets with water and toss in an old wash cloth. Have the kids wash the riding toys on the playground. Spray bottle art is always a hit. Tape paper up to a fence or lay it on the ground. Fill old spray bottles with water colored with food coloring or washable paint. Let the kids create their own magical works of art. If you have a sandbox, don’t forget to make sand castles. Wet the sand down. Use empty containers of all shapes and sizes to create your castles. Have a beach party. Bring in a wading pool. Sit lawn chairs in it. Toss in some floats, empty bottles of sunscreen, beach hats and sunglasses. The children and bring their swimsuits and towels from home. It’s great pretend fun! Be sure to have them dig for seashells in the sand table, and play with a beach ball. Put some sand in the bottom of the pool for extra fun playing and walking barefoot. Don’t forget the sidewalk chalk, hula-hoops, and jump ropes. Hula-hoops can be used as an obstacle course, or hung up so you can toss beach balls through them. Painting with water. Fill buckets with water and have some cheap paintbrushes on hand. Let the children “paint” the fence, patio, and house with water. Pretend to swim. Deep sea dive. What do you see? Jump over the waves. Go surfing. Fill a wading pool with water. Add plastic boats and fish for the world’s largest water table. Set up a lemonade stand. Have the children take turns selling and buying. Have fun with it. School is just around the corner!
