It does wonders for the mind, body and soul. Well, for a normal functioning individual it's important to indulge in such activities that will help build stamina, keep a healthy mind, and strengthen the body. Although for an individual with a disability it is especially important to have physical activity a part of their everyday life. Today, more and more physical therapists and occupational therapists are incorporating some new and innovative therapies along with the traditional therapies. Thai-massage and yoga are two therapies that have been around for centuries and are used to heal the body in a spiritual manner. However, the professional keeps in mind what therapy will be the most beneficial for each individual. Thai-massage and yoga have shown to improve the mental and physical ability for a person living with Cerebral Palsy. Thai-massage derived from Thailand and a Buddhist spiritual practice. It is a therapeutic excercise for toning all functions of the body through manipulation, range of motion, long stretches of all muscle groups, acupressure and gentle rocking of the body all working together to bring the person into a deeper consciousness. It thereby enables the person to be more aware and in control of their body and mind. The body in return brings forth relaxation, more energy and vitality. Yoga is very similiar to Thai-massage. A Hindu spiritual practice, it is done in solitude. Deep breathing, meditation, and positional stretching aims in maintaining self control of the mind, body and soul. It focuses on posture, altering depths of breathing, stretching and using our minds to bring body and soul to function smoothly and insync with one another.
