A. It is interesting to note the Manx spelling is an exact replica of that found in the Scandinavian language: laks + aa. As already noted, Manx orthography was based on the spelling of Middle English which was also influenced greatly by Scandinavian. Also note that the Scandinavian vowel sound aa is pronounced /a/ similar to Irish á.
