Online Radio: The Q-Celtic Languages

One thing you can access from this page is the weekly schedule for the radio programs. Click on the 'Clàran radio' link to the right of the screen, with the radio tower graphic. You can see yesterday's and today's listings, as well as the next five days. Clicking on some of the previous day's programs will take you back to the 'on demand' page.

One of the other things you can access from this page is the 'Litir do Luchd-Ionnsachaidh', or 'Letter to [Gaelic] Learners'. You can hear the most recent one by clicking on the speaker within the section, or if you click on this text link, it takes you to a page with links to almost 200 'Litrichean'. You can read these in .pdf format (using Acrobat Reader or another similar reader, such as GhostView), and/or listen to them. Note that you can also access the Letter page from the main BBC - Alba page, by clicking on 'Leugh 's èist'.

This brings up another page, with a link at the top that says 'Raidió na Gaeltachta Live'. Click here and the audio file is downloaded and opened, and you hear the live broadcast. This page also has an extensive-and I do meanextensive-list of their daily programs, all of which you can also listen to, simply by clicking on the little headphones graphic to the left of the program name. Many of these are available in two formats: 'RealAudio Stream', or 'FTP Download'. The stream format is available for all of them and should work fine for most people, but if your Internet service restricts music and video use (because of the high-bandwidth demand), you can use the FTP download, which downloads the file separately, and only afterwards plays it.
