Sex-Starved Britney? Not so, says her publicist. Rumor has it Britney Spears is supposed to appear on HBO's hit Sex and the City. That rumor also has Britney playing Kim Cattrall's sex-starved niece. But her publicist says she's not even scheduled to appear on the show.
Engagements Galore! Grab your hankies gals. Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek is almost officially off the market. He announced his engagement to girlfriend Heather McComb, who he's been dating for two years.
On the other side of the Creek, Van Der Beek's co-star, Kerr Smith, is also engaged. No wedding date has been set.
Singer Jessica Simpson and her long-time beau, 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey, are tying the knot. The couple actually met in 1999 and began their three year romance soon after.
Ally McBeal Gets New Playmates Ally producers aren't letting the plot out of the bag but they are letting a few secrets slip. Christina Ricci and Matthew Perry will both guest star with Calista Flockhart. There's no word yet on Christina's role but Matthew will play a lawyer in a special two-hour episode scheduled to air in April.
Delaney Cops a Plea Kim Delaney pleaded no contest to reckless driving. She was arrested in January after officers suspected she was driving drunk. An unidentified motorist actually called 911, saying a Mercedes-Benz was weaving all over the road. The civilian then followed her home and alerted the police that she was there. Kim was sentenced to two years probation, ordered to pay a $300 fine and has to take a driving class.
The Psychic Connection The Federal Trade Commission and the state of Florida have both filed lawsuits against Miss Cleo. They're accusing her of fraud and want her to prove she's really from Jamaica, as she claims. The lawsuits came after approximately 2,000 customers complained she used deceptive and false advertising to get people to call. In addition, those alleged free readings cost each customer an average of $60 per call. Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin filed suit before the FTC and Florida.
Shoplifting Charges Stick The Beverly Hills PD arrested Winona Ryder for shoplifting at a Saks Fifth Avenue. Authorities say she stole clothes and hair accessories, totaling around $5,000. She was booked on felony grand theft charges and also for having pharmaceutical drugs without a prescription. Security officers claim they witnessed Winona trying to remove the security sensors from the clothes. But her lawyer says the charges are ridiculous. "There was no theft. I'm telling you right now there was no possession of prescription medications without a prescription. The charges, I'm convinced, once the Beverly Hills PD has a chance to investigate it, will be rejected." Winona says she was just walking in between departments when the guards got a little antsy.
