Gilbert Wins Presidency "People think I'm still 12," Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert said. "I think this is the end of my being identified as a child." She edged out Rhoda star Valerie Harper in a bitter battle for the Screen Actors Guild president position. Melissa has publicly blasted William Daniels, who announced he wasn't going to run for another term. She doesn't like the way he handled last year's commercial strike. Valerie, on the other hand, won William's instant approval. But Melissa walked away with 45.3 percent of the vote, with Valerie pulling in 39.4 percent out of close to 30,000 total votes. Melissa is only the third female president of SAG, following Patty Duke and Kathleen Nolan.

Bummed About the Butt Gwyneth Paltrow's "really upset" after her naked backside showed up in Harper's Bazaar. She claims the magazine promised to crop the photo from the waist down. When she received her advance copy, there she was - naked - bum and all. Gwyneth told reporters French photographer Patrick Demarchelier "lied to me and said he wasn't going to put my whole bottom in the picture--and he did." Reps for the magazine say they made no promises and added, "Gwyneth was very cooperative about posing for us, and we've had a wonderful response." As for Demarchelier, he says, "I didn't force her. I asked her to do some nudes and she said yes. She's probably joking."

Brit, Justin - Pay Your Bill How do you cap off a night after taping the David Letterman Show? If you're Britney Spears, you grab 'NSYNC boyfriend Justin Timberlake and head to B Bar's weekly Beige party. The two arrived on the scene with a clan of bodyguards. Then they tried to leave without paying their bill. The minute they sat down, an assistant for the stars went up to the bar and yelled, "If we don't get a waiter right now we are leaving...and he has to wait just on us - nobody else!" The bartender explained that B Bar "doesn't work that way." So the assistant brought two bodyguards to the bar to see if he'd change his mind. Sources say the bodyguards were physically threatening the staff. Later, Brit, Justin and their crew tried to leave without paying their check. The waiter had to run out to the car and bang on the window.

Maher Sees the Axe Bill Maher doesn't expect ABC to re-sign him, after controversial comments he made on his show Politically Incorrect. "We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away," he said after the terrorist attacks. "That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building - say what you want about it, it's not cowardly." Advertisers like Sears and Federal Express immediately pulled their ads from his show. Maher says all of the fuss doesn't have him and ABC playing nice. He doesn't expect they'll keep his show on the air or offer him a new contract after his current one expires in 2002. "Could we keep working together? Yeah, but there'd still be that tension and that conflict. They're not going to change and I'm not going to change," he said.
