Carroll O'Connor Suffers a Heart Attack Actor Carroll O'Connor suffered a heart attack after complaining of chest pains. He collapsed at his Los Angeles home but doctors were unable to revive him. Carroll was best known for his Emmy award-winning work as Archie Bunker on All in the Family. The show was one of CBS' highest-rated and most controversial shows ever. Three spinoffs were ultimately created: Archie Bunker's Place, The Jeffersons and Maude. Carroll became a member of the Television Hall of Fame and the famous lounge chair he sat in is now displayed in the Smithsonian. He went on to snag an Emmy as Sheriff Bill Gillespie on CBS' In the Heat of the Night. His son Hugh, who also appeared on Heat, committed suicide in 1995 and Carroll began limiting his appearances on television and in public after that. He did make occasional guest spots on Mad About You, Party of Five and co-starred in Return to Me with David Duchovny and Minnie Driver last year. A bouquet of flowers was placed on Carroll's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a famous tradition. He is survived by his wife Nancy of almost 50 years and passed on at the tender age of 76.

Kelsey Goes Down in History When Dr. Frasier Crane made his debut on Cheers, Kelsey Grammer had no idea he'd be portraying America's favorite psychologist almost 20 years later. And now the two are going down in history. Kelsey inked a two-year contract with NBC that makes him the highest-paid star in television history. He'll bring home a remarkable $1.6 million for each episode of Frasier. The show's slated to begin its ninth season this fall but the new deal will keep Dr. Crane on the air for both the 10th and 11th seasons. Frasier has remained a top 10 player according to the Nielsen ratings for several years now. The show has won 21 Emmys, three of which Kelsey won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy. For those of you keeping score, each of the six Friends stars brings home $750,000 an episode. Jerry Seinfeld, Paul Reiser, Helen Hunt and Tim Allen secured $1 million-per-year salaries in the final seasons of their shows.

Niki's Out of the Hospital It's been two months since Niki Taylor nearly died in a car crash. Now, she's out of the hospital and into rehabilitation. She will spend several weeks in the unnamed rehabilitation center located near Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital. Niki's condition has improved considerably in the past week alone. She was removed from intensive care to good condition and then released in less than a week. Doctors say the surgery they performed to repair severe damage to her lungs and liver aided in her recovery. She had been on an artificial respirator until the middle of May. The accident occurred when the car she was riding in struck a utility pole. The driver, James Renegar, lost control of his 1993 Nissan Maxima when he reached down to pick up his ringing cell phone. Niki was wearing her seatbelt and initially felt fine. A short while later, she began suffering from severe abdominal pains and was rushed to the hospital.
