Scoop for the Week of March 18th

Robert Blake
Blake Hires Second Lawyer Robert Blake hired a second high-profile attorney after the alleged gun that killed wife Bonny Bakley was recovered. Barry Levin will take on the case and represent his client, even though the police are not calling Robert an official suspect. LAPD Capt. Jim Tatreau did say, "We have certainly not ruled out Mr. Blake. We have not been able to develop enough evidence that, as far as eliminating Mr. Blake, takes us in another direction." The weapon found is a World War II-era Walther pistol, a collector's item. Police recovered the gun from a trash receptacle in close proximity to where Bonny was murdered. Robert returned to the restaurant where he and his wife had just dined to retrieve his pistol while she waited in the car. He claims he carried the gun to protect Bonny because she feared she was being stalked. She was shot twice while she waited in Robert's Black Dodge Stealth - once in the neck and the fatal shot was in the head. ABC's Good Morning America reported that police showed up to search Robert's house after the murder. They found the place in total disarray and one wall had a hand-written message on it: "I am not going down for this." A police spokeswoman said she cannot confirm or deny the report.

Downey Won't Be Charged Robert Downey, Jr., tested positive for cocaine after he was arrested last month. But that arrest won't result in drug charges. The state corrections officials will handle the case instead of prosecutors. That's good news to Robert. He'll probably remain in rehab, his parole will be more strict but it's doubtful he'll be sent back to prison. Unfortunately for Robert, though, he also faces a May 24 hearing for his November arrest. In that case, he's charged with felony possession of cocaine and Valium. A conviction could result in a maximum sentence of four years and eight months in prison. The decision not to charge Robert in his April arrest will not affect this case.

Not-So-Charmed Anymore The WB hit Charmed will be one witch shy next season. Shannen Doherty split the Aaron Spelling show of three magical sisters fighting evil. This is the second time she's left a Spelling production. She was fired from Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1994 after some serious personality clashes on set. In 1998, Spelling cast her in a starring role on Charmed with fellow actresses Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs. Shannen and Alyssa soon formed a huge rivalry against each other. Reports out of the Charmed camp say Shannen gave the producers an ultimatum: "her or me." The crew likes Alyssa much better and didn't respond to Shannen's threats. She did direct the season finale, which turned out to be her final episode as Prue Halliwell. Shannen will still have plenty to keep her busy. She must appear in court June 12 to be sentenced for a "no contest" plea stemming from her December 2000 arrest for drunk driving.
