Scoop for the Week of December 29th
Downey's Innocent Robert Downey, Jr. pleaded innocent at his December 27th arraignment. The court appearance stemmed from his drug arrest Thanksgiving weekend. He entered the courtroom through a side door but the paparazzi were waiting for him. Robert's still free on $15,000 bail. His lawyer requested a continuance of his arraignment. The request was denied. Robert's charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony possession of the prescription depressant diazepam and a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Felony counts could result in a sentence of three years each. The misdemeanor is worth one year in jail. He could also face an additional year because of his previous felony drug conviction. His next court appearance will be on January 29th. Jason Robards Dies Jason Robards, 78, died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. In a move being called long overdue, Steven Spielberg received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But even that little perk doesn't impress his neighbors. They're pretty peeved at Steve. And all he wants to do is make his wife, Kate Capshaw, happy. See, Steve's planning to build a five-story horse-riding ring in a Brentwood neighborhood. Neighbors say the structure cuts half the hillside. To put it all in perspective, the 27,000-square-foot building would be about six times the size of a Brentwood home. Steven's estimated costs would be around $7 million. He wants all the bells and whistles, including a domed roof, subterranean stables and a spectator platform. If it's all right with Steven and Kate why shouldn't it be all right with the neighbors? Well, they live in another neighborhood close to Brentwood but don't plan to live where the proposed building would be. A city hearing is planned for January 4th.
