Proof Stars Peeved You've undoubtedly heard of the new Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe movie, Proof of Life. It's the movie that sparked the real-life romance between the two. It's also the source of a new controversy. Taylor Hackford is speaking out about his co-stars. He says he, David Morse and David Caruso aren't really happy with how Meg and Russell are handling the publicity for their movie. See, Meg and Russell have limited their interviews to TV and radio, excluding print and online outlets. Their publicists have more control over the questions TV and radio journalists ask that way. And the other co-stars say they don't want Proof of Life to be known as the movie that started Meg and Russell's romance. Um, too late.

Downey's Depressed You heard about Robert Downey, Jr.'s arrest here just last week. But now Robert allegedly checked himself into a hospital for depression. While his publicist declined to comment, sources say Robert was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills. He was previously diagnosed as being manic-depressive. After his release from the hospital, he was spotted having lunch with Mel Gibson. Mel's penciled Robert in to star in a January stage production of Hamlet that he's directing. However, Robert may be unavailable if he's convicted of felony drug charges on Dec. 27.

Road Rage? Mention the words "celebrity car chase" and you automatically think of O.J. Simpson's Bronco going down the freeway. Well, this time O.J.'s driving but he's turned the words car chase into road rage. While driving down the streets of his new hometown in Miami, O.J. ran a stop sign. But one man says that's not all that happened. Jeffrey Pattinson, 55, says O.J.'s black Lincoln Navigator cut him off. According to Pattinson, O.J. said, "So I blew the stop sign. What are you going to do? Kill me and my kids?" Pattinson replied, "What the hell is the matter with you?" He then claims that O.J. reached through his window, pulled off Pattinson's $300 glasses, scratching his face. Pattinson says he heard a young girl's voice from the SUV saying, "No, Daddy. No, Daddy." The Miami-Dade County Police Department will take the case to the state attorney's office if they find enough evidence.

Spade's Not Bitter Okay, someone attacks you with a stun gun. How do you react? Perhaps David Spade is still in shock. No pun intended. He says the personal assistant that attacked him is "a good person." David Warren Malloy assaulted him while trying to rob his Beverly Hills home. He was arrested and charged with burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. Malloy was taken to a hospital for undisclosed reasons. Sources say he may be suicidal. Spade says, "David Malloy was a good friend of mine for five years. I believe he is a good person who is obviously mentally troubled right now. I can only hope that he seeks the help he needs to get well. My heart goes out to him."
