Say Goodbye To Hollywood
Elizabeth Hurley may not be spending very much time in Tinseltown any time soon. She crossed Screen Actors Guild picket lines to shoot a commercial for Estee Lauder. Members of SAG want her kicked out of their organization. But Elizabeth says she didn't know there was a strike because she doesn't live in this country. She says she never would have done the work if she'd known about the ongoing feud between her union and the advertising industry. But actor-director Tim Robbins isn't impressed. At a New York rally he shouted, "We're bringing [Hurley] to trial after this is over. She won't get away with it." And let's not forget, it's those SAG members that also do a lot of hiring and firing in Hollywood.
*N Grease? Ready to revisit Rydell High School? Don't look for John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Look for the boys of *N Sync. That's right. Grease is the word for the famous boy band. They'll be sporting those black T-Birds leather jackets and slicked back hair-dos. So who would be perfect as a Pink Lady? Could it be *N Syncer Justin Timberlake's real life girlfriend, Britney Spears? Could be. Reps used the "no comment" plea so we'll just have to wait and see. But maybe *N Syncer Lance Bass gave us a little sneak peek into the starring roles. He said, "It's gonna be a huge, huge movie, and we've got some major, major people in it. We're the five stars of it with another person that you're gonna know very well." Meg Ryan Says No More Cryin' She's finally setting the record straight. Meg Ryan says she went from America's sweetheart to the Scarlet woman for no good reason. She claims her relationship with hubby Dennis Quaid was over long before she steamed it up with Proof of Life co-star Russell Crowe. Rumors of Dennis' constant flirting with women half his age and grabbing certain body parts on location at his movie shoots have constantly plagued their nine-year marriage. But Meg firmly insists Dennis was always faithful and never strayed. While she refuses to discuss her new relationship with Russell, sources close to Meg say the two are planning a quickie wedding after her divorce to Dennis is final. Dr. Laura's Not GLAAD Dr. Laura Schlessinger is trying to make peace with members of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). She previously called gays and lesbians a "biological error" and "deviants." She took out a full-page ad in Daily Variety to air her apology. In the ad she says, "While I express my opinions from the perspective of an Orthodox Jew and a staunch defender of the traditional family, in talking about gays and lesbians, some of my words were poorly chosen. Many people perceive them as hate speech. This fact has been personally and professionally devastating to me as well as to many others." But GLAAD says no way are they going to be forgiving. They replied, "Laura Schlessinger once again blames others for the impact of her rhetoric, refusing to take responsibility for her precisely chosen, scientifically inaccurate descriptions of gay and lesbian lives." Dr. Laura's newfound regretfulness comes on the heels of her sinking TV talk show. Allegations of planted guests have lead to faltering ratings. The show has already been canceled in Canada.
