Scoop for the Week of March 31st

Oscar Oops Hilary Swank's acceptance speech for Best Actress in Boys Don't Cry said it all. "Mom, I guess this was worth living in the car." But wait! Who's that crying in the audience that she forgot to thank? Her husband! Tears rolled down Chad Lowe's face as Hilary thanked everybody on her list except him. Backstage she said, "The most important person in my life and I forgot to thank him. I didn't write him down on my list of people to thank because he's my husband. I'm not going to forget him."

And yes, it's true. Hilary and her mother did live in their car. They packed up their Oldsmobile and left Washington with 75 dollars in hand. They lived in their car for four years. After roles in The Next Karate Kid and Beverly Hills, 90210, Hilary's finally reached Hollywood stardom at the Oscars, beating out fellow nominees, Meryl Streep, Annette Benning, Janet McTeer and Julianne Moore.

Jason Jailed You heard it here first. Jason Priestley crashed his car back in December. He said he swerved to avoid hitting a deer when he smashed up his Porsche. But L.A. Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor recently ruled Jason was drunk and sentenced him to five days in jail. Jason will also serve three years probation and enter a drug or alcohol treatment program. If it sounds a lot like an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 to you, you're right. Jason's character, Brandon Walsh, totaled his car in a drunk driving collision. And we all know about Luke Perry's character, Dylan McKay, battle with drugs and alcohol. While Jason will have some time to think during those five days in jail, he may be too busy counting his blessings. He could have faced up to three years in the state pen if convicted.

CBS Doesn't Spell Cosby When CBS promoted Cosby, they touted their three little letters as being a part of the Cosby name. But now they're taking the Cosby out of CBS. After four seasons, they're pulling the plug. The show's popularity never compared to the long-running ratings powerhouse, The Cosby Show. But the ratings struggle wasn't helped with CBS moving the show twice this season from Monday to Wednesday and then to Friday. So what's next on Bill Cosby's plate besides more Jell-O commercials? He just completed a gig as one of several guest hosts on The Late Show With David Letterman and host of Kids Say the Darndest Things. But CBS says you might just see Bill in a sitcom of different sorts pretty soon. Look for the final episode of Cosby on April 28.
