Scoop for the Week of August 6th

Friends Aren't Forever Women are better friends than men. Right? Maybe not. The friends on Friends may be calling it quits after the 1999- 2000 season. But NBC says the show would go on. Would you watch without Rach, Phebes and Mon? Well, rumor has it Friends femmes Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox are ready to dump plain old television and head to the silver screen full-time. David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc have also visited the silver screen but haven't tasted the box office sweetness of a successful movie. And remember, the Friends cast banded together in past contract negotiations to get six figures per episode. But NBC is determined to keep the show on at least two more seasons...That could mean one season that Rach, Phebes and Mon won't be there for you.

Heartthrob Hospital? The perfect Cinderella story. Ricky Martin went from Menudo member to hunky Miguel Morez on General Hospital. Of course you may know him better as the singer of that catchy Livin' La Vida Loca. But could Ricky be headed back to the Hospital? Several soap magazines reported Ricky would make a one-day appearance on General Hospital and would donate his salary to charity. So what's the problem? It's not going to happen! Is Ricky ashamed of his soap roots? Not exactly. With his overwhelming success, Ricky's day planner is booked solid for the next year.

Pinkett Passes While in London helping hubby Will Smith promote his movie, Wild Wild West, Jada Pinkett-Smith told reporters she passed on becoming an angel. One of Charlie's Angels that is. Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore are still waiting to find out who will complete their trio. Shooting is scheduled to begin in the fall since the movie is set to be released in the summer of 2000. But Pinkett wasn't the first choice to rekindle the angelic magic of Jaclyn Smith's original role. Both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angeline Jolie said no way to Charlie. Producers are now pursuing former Fugee Lauryn Hill. What would Bosley say? Well, just ask Bill Murray. He's signed on to play the go-between of Charlie and the Angels. No word on what kind of speaker will be used to play Charlie.

Down on Downey You heard it here over a month ago. Oscar-nominated actor Robert Downey Jr. would learn of his fate for violating parole on August 5. But he went back to court with a familiar face by his side...Robert Shapiro. Known as the celebrity's lawyer, Shapiro is best known for successfully defending O.J. Simpson. But Judge Lawrence Mira wasn't impressed. He sentenced Downey Jr. to three years in prison
