Movin' On Out
Sherman Hemsley can't even afford
a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Better known as George on
The Jeffersons, Sherman's facing
eviction from his $600,000 home. In a desperate attempt to keep from being locked out of
his house, he filed a last-minute bankruptcy petition. He's putting on a happy face, saying
he's moving from his home for 24 years anyway but not for financial reasons. He claims
the house's foundation was damaged in an earthquake and the house is starting to slide
down the hill. But he hasn't paid a mortgage payment in 18 months and owes creditors
nearly $1.2 million. So where did all that money go from playing George Jefferson? First,
he lost a lot of money in bad investments. And even though he recently won $2 million in a
lawsuit against a film distributor, the company hasn't paid up and it's all tied up in appeals.
His manager put up his own house as collateral for one of Sherman's loans and then lost
his house when the loan went bad. The manager now lives with Sherman. And since
Nick-At-Nite has put The Jeffersons back on
the air, the residuals should put Sherman back
up in the big leagues, right? Not so.
He pledged the residuals of that show and others he's starred in to a lender for a $350,000
loan he's defaulted on. Sherman
finally got a piece of the pie but ate it all too
quickly.
Steve Martin Gives Anne Heche The "Bowfinger"
It's payback time. Just ask
Steve Martin. Five years ago,
Anne Heche ended their love affair and wound up with lesbian lover Ellen DeGeneres.
Now Steve's getting his revenge for getting dumped. He wrote the script for
Bowfinger, which paints a barely disguised and
unflattering picture of Anne as an ambitious young starlet. Sources say Steve carried the
pain of the breakup for years but feels she just used him to get to the top. In the movie,
Steve plays Bowfinger, a down-on-his luck movie producer.
Heather Graham plays his
love interest...a young girl from Ohio who sleeps her way to the top before coming out as
a Hollywood power lesbian. At the end of the movie the actress is on the arm of a woman
who's introduced as "one of the most powerful lesbians in Hollywood." Anne's from Ohio
and she did indeed end up with one of the most powerful lesbians in Hollywood, Ellen
DeGeneres. Ironic or iron-clad revenge?
Wedded Bliss?
First she was married to Martin
Lawrence. Then, as she prepared to marry football hero Emmitt Smith, Martin re-entered the picture. To give the happy wedding couple a present? Not exactly. Martin's
