Celebrity Gossip - Awards Galore

Big weekend in the 2006 Awards season! First was the DGA (Directors Guild) Awards on Saturday, January 26th. There, following his earlier Golden Globes win, celebrity Director Ang Lee won top honors for "Brokeback Mountain", this year's most talked about feature film. Sometimes referred to as the "gay cowboy love story", "Brokeback Mountain" is the beautifully shot and acted Western story of love denied and a lifetime of regret. Ang Lee now has to be considered a frontrunner for the Oscars scheduled for March 5th.

The other big Awards show was the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards on Sunday, January 29th. Similar to the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards celebrate both movies and TV so the show was filled with celebrity nominees and presenters from both media. There current celebrity goddess Reese Witherspoon ("Walk The Line") and new celebrity character actor Philip Seymour Hoffman ("Capote") repeated their wins from the GGs. In a surprise, the big celebrity rich acting group from "Crash" won as the best ensemble. In the film supporting actor categories, celebrity actress Rachel Weisz ("The Constant Gardener") repeated her GG win, while new celebrity Paul Giamatti (a multiple winner from last year's sleeper hit "Sideways") won for his work in "Cinderella Man", supporting celebrity superstar Russell Crowe. On the TV side, celebrity actress Felicity Huffman (married to wonderful character actor William H. Macy) won for Best Actress in a comedy series for "Desperate Housewives", while new celebrity Sandra Oh (who also appeared in last year's "Sideways") won for Best actress in a drama series for "Grey's Anatomy". Celebrity actor Kiefer Sutherland won for Best Actor in a drama series for his work in "24", and Sean Hayes won for Best Actor in a comedy series for "Will and Grace". The large cast from "Lost" won as best ensemle cast in a TV series, also repeating from the GGs where "Lost" won as Best TV drama series..
