A saint for our time

Amid the hustle and bustle of today's busy world, it's often times hard to stop and really think about what really matters. Perhaps the best way to spread your faith is to simply live it. I am constantly challenged as I learn about lives of saints-especially martyrs. Not even death can take away their love for God.

Leonardo Defilippis brings to life a martyr's story in "Maximilian: Saint of Auschwitz," a video from Saint Luke Productions. This story is truly an inspiration for our time.

Pope John Paul II calls St. Maximilian Kolbe "the saint for our difficult century." Fr. Kolbe in 1941 was arrested by the Gestapo for his tireless work against the Nazi forces. Sent to Auschwitz, he was used for slave labor, beaten and humiliated. He is known for taking the place of a married man who was condemned to death.

Sometimes I think life is hard and then I read about or watch a story like this. I thank God every day for the many blessings he has given me and pray, if it be his will, that I will never be subjected to such torture.
