This is the greatest story

If you've exhausted all the choices at your local video store, why not take a look at some inspirational and educational classics.

I'm finally getting around to watching some of the videos I have purchased through various Catholic sources. On Good Friday I had the opportunity to watch perhaps one of the best classics on the life of Jesus-The Greatest Story Ever Told from MGM/UA Home Video.

This 3 hour and 15-minute film, made in 1965, brings to life the story of Jesus Christ, including his birth, teachings, crucifixion and resurrection. Somehow, seeing the story on screen brought it more to life as opposed to reading about it. Besides the moving recreation of Jesus' death and resurrection, the main focus of the movie, many other details came to light.

I really felt for the mothers who lost their infants to King Herod's wrath. Seeing how it probably happened brought tears to my eyes. Herod, wanting to get rid of the newborn king, had all the babies in Bethlehem killed not knowing Jesus had left the city with his mother and father.

So if you have a few spare hours, treat yourself to this film. Though long, it is very well done and it sure beats some of the stuff at the video store.

Also, take a closer look and you'll recognize a a few of the actors.
