Catechism of the Catholic Church - A Layperson's View: Part 2

"These things" refers back to food, clothing and work.

Jesus said to seek first the Kingdom of God. Jesus is the man who traveled without possessions, college degrees, professional credentials or influential contacts. Jesus was the leader of the spiritual kingdom in which we are called to participate.

We participate in the Kingdom of God through actions, prayers and suffering. [307] This is the "hierarchy of actions" in which Christians are called to participate, rather than the "hierarchy of needs." "See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ." (Colossions 2:8)

I have only hit upon quotes and themes that particularly struck me in my study of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Each of us must do our own study of the books of faith to find words that move us to spiritual growth. Modern culture seems to emphasize financial growth, physical growth or growth in accumulation (collections, experiencess, etc.). We need not fall into that kind of mind set. We can insist on being more than just participants in the physical world. We can exist in the Kingdom of God.
