I was absoluely delighted by the introductory biographical material on the writer, who like most Saints did not accept many prevlaent teachings of his times. After being removed from his post for not being "agreeable" in his native France, he said he'd like to get another opinion. St. Louis de Montfort then walked to Rome to see the Pope. As I live in a central area of the United States in the late twentieth century, I was very impressed and amused imagining someone traveling all the way to another country without benenfit of car or plane or bus, or motel or hotel rooms, or credit cards and traveler's checks. I was also impressed by St. Louis de Montfort's willingness to go to such great lengths to try to do what he thought was right.
St. Louis de Montfort did get "another" opinion. The Pope agreed he should be continue his preaching and work with the poor and gave him the title Apostolic Missionary.
True Devotion to Mary is an elaboraton of St. Louis de Montfort's central teachings about Mary which can be found in The Secret of Mary. True Devotion to Mary also explains in detail de Montfort's method to prepare for total consecration to Jesus through Mary, His mother. If God chose for Jesus to grow under Mary's guidance, then why would God not choose for us to grow spiritually by that same mother?
