Cartoons on Exhibit in 2004If you are travelling this year, perhaps you will happen across one of the many cartoon exhibits going on around the United States and beyond. Here are just a few of the events taking place in 2004: California The 100th birthday celebration of the adored Dr. Seuss is showing at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, California. Called the "Seussentennial," by the Museum, you will delight to "See rare, early original drawings and paintings by one of America's most beloved storytellers and cartoon artists: incredible insects, feathered flocks and animated animals, including the Grinch and the Cat in the Hat. All demonstrate the enduring ingenuity and artistry of Dr. Seuss." The exhibit runs from February 20 to June 4, 2004. For more information, go to http://www.cartoonart.org/ The Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California March 20 - Sept 27, 2004 is featuring "MAD™ about Peanuts; MAD™ parodies of Peanuts Strips and Characters." Famed comics artist Sergio Aragones from MAD ™ Magazine will make an appearance on the opening day to speak about Peanuts and MAD™ http://www.schulzmuseum.org/exhibits.html Also at the Charles M. Schulz Museum, the features of artist Everhart, with his unique perspective on Snoopy and the Gang is on display until March 15. New York The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York City is holding their 3rd Annual Art Festival including renowned cartoons "Bizarro" and "The Norm," plus numerous other submissions. Syndicated, self-published, small press and new works are elements of this large and popular Festival. Only held for two days, the Art Festival will take place on June 26 and 27 this year in the Puck Building on Lafayette Street. In a slightly different arena of cartooning, Stan and Jan Berenstain, creators of beloved The Berenstain Bears, have their captivating work on exhibit at the Strong Museum in Rochester, New York, from March 13 to May 30th 2004. Described by their sponsor as "The first museum retrospective honoring their outstanding six-decade careers, The Berenstain Bears Celebrate: The Art of Jan and Stan Berenstain traces the Berenstain's unique collaboration as artists and explores the evolution of their work, from their student days through their mature work as illustrators in the fields of cartooning, children's books and animation art."
