Team Penske putting together a 4th place finish at Surfer's Paradise for de Ferran gives him his second series championship. I follow the series fairly closely, and I have to admit it was a sneaky win for de Ferran. He was simply the best, the most consistent in a quiet way.
DIXON CAPTURES ROOKIE OF THE YEAR HONORS IN AUSTRALIA

You gotta wonder what's up with this? It's difficult to believe Fittipaldi is in danger of losing a CART ride. On the other hand, it makes good business sense, for there's a signficant Hispanic population in south Florida and in other parts of the USA, for that matter, and NASCAR wouldn't be averse to having a big-name, successful Hispanic driver.
CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI TO COMPETE IN NASCAR BUSCH SERIES MIAMI 300
MIAMI, FL (October 29, 2001) -- Christian Fittipaldi, current driver with the Newman/Haas ChampCar team, will attempt to qualify and race in the NASCAR Busch Series Miami 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 10 in an entry fielded by Innovative Motorsports. The Miami 300 is the Saturday race of the NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series weekend, November 9-11 at
Homestead-Miami Speedway.
