"What We Got Here Is, Failure to Communicate"

Don't you believe it.

You can bet the rent money that Bobby Rahal communicated his displeasure to Max Papis for the move that took out both Team Rahal cars at Mid-Ohio. Silly was the word Rahal used on television. Times three. I seem to remember, "Silly, silly, silly ..." And you can bet the language got a little more colorful in the privacy of the team's car hauler.

Papis was probably thinking, "Why did this have to be the weekend Team Jaguar didn't need the boss?"

What was Mad Max's thoughts about the incident that took both Rahal cars out of a podium finish? Apparently he though teammate Kenny Brack had lost the line and was easing up to give him room to pass. Not so.

And now Brack's lead in the championship hunt as dwindled to a single point.

Don'tcha Just Love Silly Season?

John Kernan lead off the first weekday edition of ESPN's RPM2NITE with Robin Miller's bet the leftover rent money rumor that Kenny Brack has signed with Team Target Chip Ganassi for the 2002 season. Of course, you don't need to unravel too much of the 'Net to read more speculation -- stuff like Jimmy Vasser is headed back to Ganassi, like Townsend Bell will take over one of the Patrick Racing seats currently occuppied by the aforementioned Vasser and Roberto Moreno.

But, hey, let's not forget the fan-favorite all-American guy, Memo Gidley. While he didn't have a podium finish at Mid-Ohio, he out-finished the flashy F3000 rookie who's his teammate. And he's higher in the season point standings too in spite of running considerably fewer races.

Personally, I'd kinda like to see Gidley get the ride full-time.

Helio Castroneves repeats at Mid-Ohio
Just like last year, Brazilian Gil de Ferran started on pole, but his Teammate Helio Castroneves beat him for the win. This year they started the same way (1-2) and once again Indy 500 winner Castroneves beat de Ferran to win. Canadian Patrick Carpentier was third.

Jeremy Shaw's Mid-Ohio Notebook: Sunday
Lexington, Ohio, Aug. 12
No doubt about it, the biggest talking point following today's Miller Lite 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was the incident on Lap 30 between the two Team Rahal Ford-Cosworth/Lolas of Kenny Brack and Max Papis.
