Soulful Holiday Ideas

The hectic hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us once again. Are you trying to find ways to make this year a little different? Once the gift buying, baking and preparations begin, we often lay our souls aside in favor of 'getting things done'. How do you find balance in your life when there seems to be so much pressure to 'perform' in a commercially festive way? No matter where your spiritual inclinations are, this time of shorter days and longer nights requires each of us to bring our own 'light' forth to shine. Here are some ways that can help bring more inspiration and soul to the holidays.

9 Ways to Make the Holidays More Soulful

1.The Gratitude List
Make a personal list of the things you are grateful for from this past year. Let this process be a time of reflection and joy for you. List as many things as possible and include even those that may seem rather small. Keep the list posted in a place that you can readily see and take a few minutes each week to reflect on them.

After you have made your personal list, you may wish to invite your family to make one together. This is a wonderful way to end a holiday meal such as Thanksgiving dinner! You may even want to type up a special version of the list to include in your Christmas or holiday cards. The important thing is to take the time to reflect on the richness of your life.

2.Soup's On!
Volunteer at a local food bank or soup kitchen. These wonderful organizations do so much for the community and they always need helping hands. Gift baskets for needy families have to be organized, meals need to be served and also delivered. It is such a rewarding experience to be a part of such efforts. Encourage family and friends to join you in this task. The more the merrier!

Be sure to contact the organization's coordinator before showing up. They schedule their time carefully and will know when they need you the most. Consider volunteering on the actual holiday. Often people volunteer for the time right before and right after a major holiday but don't feel they want to take the time on the day of celebration. Your dinner can wait while you help others. The meal will taste all the better when you go home.

3.Embrace the sick, the elderly and the little ones
