Part 2 of 'Simplify Your Life!'

What kind of an impact does your job have on you? Do feel stressed out and overworked? Are you finding that you have less time for family and friends then you would like? This part of the 'Simplify Your Life' series tackles the issue of work and how you can find a better sense of balance in your life.

What is 'Unjobbing'?
I'll start with my favorite quote about work and go from there.
"WORK begins when you don't like what you're doing. Tension, a lack of honesty, and a sense of unreality came from following the wrong force in your life. As an adult, you must rediscover the moving power of your life!"
-Joseph Campbell

There's a new word floating around these days as it was coined by a man named Michael Fogler. He's the author of "Unjobbing, the adult liberation handbook". He was a music professor who eventually became tired of trying to climb up the ivory tower in order to have a schedule and pay that didn't seem to be aligned with his ideals.
'Unjobbing' happens when you let go of your conventional ideas about work and the work environment and begin to embrace a life's purpose of passion and happiness. You begin to realize that life is too short to spend working unforgiving hours away from everything you love just to give your self the 'security' of a stereotypical job.

Consider These Ideas...
1. Do I like my job?
Are you living the life of your dreams? Is what you do every day feeding your soul? If you answer 'no' to these questions, then perhaps 'unjobbing' is the route for you. A change is in the works.

2. How much is your job costing you?
When you add up how long it takes you to travel to and from work each day in addition to your work hours, how much are you really making an hour? How much money per year do you spend on gas, transportation, wear and tear on the car, the proper 'work' clothing, lunches away from home, and any gadgets you may buy to make the transition from home to work easier? These expenses can really add up and you may very well start asking yourself why you would ever choose to work away from home!

3. What do you really need?
Consider all of your options. Look at the benefit package you get from work and decide if you could 'go it alone'. (If your job is stressful, also consider the toll it has on your body.)
