Caribbean Travel Tips!


The following are just a sampling of the Caribbean's "natural" offerings:

  • St. John's - Virgin Islands National Park, covering nearly one-half of the island, houses Cinnamon Bay Campground with bare sites, tents and cottages. Watersport equipment rental is also available.

  • Cancun - Along the road connecting Cancun and Tulum, Punta Bete, Paamul and Chemuyil offer beach camping.

  • Puerto Rico - Mona Island offers beach camping at Sardinera.

    So before you book your next all-inclusive adventure, consider camping in the Caribbean. You'll enjoy an authentic adventure, with minimal damage to your pocketbook.

    Create your own relaxation tapes

    Stressed out, over-worked, and under-paid souls are reaching for anything to help them unwind. A current trend is relaxation tapes featuring natural sounds such as waves crashing against the shore or birds chirping in a tropical paradise. While these tapes are a wonderful release, why not consider making your own?

    The next time you find yourself in the Caribbean, record your surroundings. When you return, you'll have a permanent record of your trip, as well as a personal and meaningful relaxation tape!

    Don't bite your ice

    Some Caribbean countries offer water that is at best - questionable. Therefore, most travelers bypass the tap water in exchange for bottled water or canned beverages. However, even the brightest traveler often overlooks the obvious - ICE CUBES! Unless they're imported, and they never are, ice cubes contain the same bacteria found in the tap water. So when in doubt, do yourself a favor and stay away from ALL forms of water!

    Outwit those vendors

    Have you ever noticed how pleasant and personable vendors can be when you first approach them? They're interested in your lodgings, your reason for travel, your occupation, etc. However, while some people are genuine, many vendors have another agenda.

    Haggling is a fine art. Whoever best judges when the opponent will break is the winner. And while both parties are on a level playing field at the start of the haggling, vendors soon tip the scale in their favor with a few seemingly innocent questions.

    "Where are you staying?" and "What do you do?" translate into, "How much money do you have to spend?" With this little piece of information, vendors will know how high to go on their prices and when to simply give up hope and walk away.

    To avoid giving away your financial status, one sentence will ensure the best deal.
