The Caribbean is truly a present-day Eden. Pristine beaches, to-die-for diving and down-home hospitality are a traveler's dream destination. However, this Eden is also the home to hot, humid conditions, "questionable" water supplies, and aggressive vendors. One might say there are a few potholes in the traveler's road through Eden. Yet a few simple travel tips will help you avoid those potholes and keep you traveling down a smooth road through Eden.
Keep your cool with an Igloo-style cooler carry-on While many of the comforts of home are left behind in exchange for carefree and less cumbersome travel, one creature comfort CAN become a toteable treasure. A sturdy, Igloo-style cooler, complete with a handle or strap, is the perfect Caribbean carry-on and a convenient way to keep your cool. Many travelers purchase one of those clumsy Styrofoam numbers when they arrive in the Caribbean. It's perfect for keeping your cool on the beach or on any adventurous excursions. However, you can turn your cooler into a carry-on by packing all your essential items - hot, cold, or otherwise - into this sturdy, easily stored and easy to handle "bag." You and your items will remain cool, both en route and after arrival. Safe, affordable Caribbean transportation via the airport shuttle Traveling in the Caribbean can be a challenge when it comes to post-arrival transportation. After the airport shuttle drops travelers at their hotels, they often feel helpless and stranded. Many don't want to rent a car and risk a wreck amid the often "crazy" Caribbean drivers, or they don't want to dole out a pricey cab fare to take them from one town to the next. However, there is another option, and it's the same vehicle that left them stranded: the airport/hotel shuttle. This form of transportation is constantly providing transportation between both popular and remote cities - often with very few passengers on return routes. Travelers can use the shuttle like a personal bus by checking the routes and times and personally arranging pickups with the drivers. Shuttle companies and drivers are often more than willing to secure that extra fare by taking you along for the ride. In addition, you'll often pay less than a regular passenger will and far less than the cost of a taxi. Caribbean camping - an affordable alternative While something can certainly be said for posh all-inclusives, five-star restaurants and umbrella-adorned drinks, the Caribbean has far more to offer than these pricey, man-made wonders. This land of incredible scenery and year-round temperate climates is also home to some of the best camping and hiking in the world.
