GET MORE FROM YOUR CARIBBEAN VACATION. Part 1


By now the reader may very well be ready to cease allowing their time to be consumed by what probably appears to be unimportant information for the tourist, but I would beg of you to bear with me just a few moments longer. My goal is to inform you, and attempt to thus help you to gain greater enjoyment from your next vacation in the Caribbean. Please hear me out.

Let's consider a typical scenario... A couple embarks on a cruise ship sailing from Florida (generally Miami or Fort Lauderdale) and plying the waters of the Caribbean Sea. Their itinerary will more than likely consist of the Islands most commonly visited, which will more than likely include an island that the majority of cruise ships go to... St. Thomas.

Now, in all fairness to the fine folks of St. Thomas (and to all our friends who live there), I would like to emphasize that the island DOES have some very fine attractions. In fact, there is no doubt that only a few select spots in the Caribbean have a more beautiful view than that which you can enjoy on a bright sunny day looking down upon Magen's Bay from the mountaintop.

St. Thomas is also well equipped with all kinds of specialties that tourists find irresistible, such as boat tours to other nearby islands and LOTS of shopping. However, in stating these facts, we have hit the very 'bulls-eye' that this article is all about. We have found the money connection. Before I stick my neck out and bluntly make my point however, I would like to remind you of the answer you gave earlier when I asked about the central motivating factor.... You said, "MONEY"! Please remember that thought as I continue. This is not just MY idea.... Most people are aware of that influential factor, but they have just not taken time to think about how it affects their vacation.

My wife and I were involved with the tourism and cruise industry for quite a few years. We learned very quickly from personal experience the REASONS that cruise ships go to certain places, and almost NEVER go to the best places. We found out why islands with large numbers of stores selling very expensive jewelry and similar small (easily transported by tourists), high cost items are the main destinations for most travel companies and cruise lines.
