A Fond Farewell

This will be my last article here at Suite 101. It was just over a year ago that this Career Planning site was born. I've loved being a part of this community, with its occasional bumps, bruises and growing pains. The family of editors, staff, members and visitors here at the Suite has made this place feel like home.

I've learned much here about writing for the internet, and this experience has brought me to my next job. As of July 15th, I'll be writing a weekly column on managing your career for a new Boomers site. Meeting a weekly column commitment will require time for research, reading and writing. This, with my "day job" as a vocational counselor, will keep the days full if not breathless!

As a boomer myself, I've noticed changes in my career values and interests over time. At midlife we can take a break from the career roles that have driven us thus far - in particular our early ambitions for success and advancement, which consumed vast amounts of time and energy. Midlife offers an opportunity to slow down a bit, to redefine ourselves, and to see who we are apart from our earlier roles. And through the process, we may discover a desire to express this more whole self in our careers.

In my case, I've found a deep love of writing a this time in my life, and am eager to follow where it leads me.

I'm delighted and grateful to have been a part of Suite 101 this past year, and have grown as both a career counselor and a writer here. I invite any interested readers to apply to take over as editor of this Career Planning column. We've got a good thing going here. Jason (Managing Editor) and I hope this column continues, and we encourage you to submit your application.

Remember, it's your future. Make an informed career choice!
