Exporting America
by Lou Dobbs Published by Time Warner Book Group August 30, 2004 Lou Dobbs needs no introduction, or at least he shouldn't. As a business journalist and main newsman on Lou Dobbs Tonight, he has made waves throughout Corporate America for his views for the people. He is "the source" in speaking against Outsourcing - or Exporting America. Before you just ignore this article and this book - ask yourself this: If Lou Dobbs is so wrong, why isn't ANYONE stating HOW he is wrong and back that up with facts, instead of just saying he is wrong, or tearing him down personally. If Lou Dobbs is so wrong, why does he have the facts to back him up? If you think you are safe from this, forget it. If you think it's just low-level manufacturing jobs that have been exported, forget it. If you think you will NOT be affected by this outsourcing, forget it. Lou Dobbs does an excellent job of bringing the facts to light of outsourcing - which is a euphemism for Exporting - and that's exactly what is happening. Mr. Dobbs presents us with a detailed and thoroughly researched report on this predicament. He not only provides the cold facts, but how people have been affected. Chilling examples of mindless greed - one state actually was outsourcing to another country its project to help the unemployed in that state! Wait a minute - how can spending tax dollars to another country benefit that state? Wouldn't that money be better spent hiring within its own state (and yes, the talent is there). The most important thing you can remember from this book is this: companies don't pay taxes, people do. The most frightening part of this book is this: as unemployment rises, more burden is put on the tax payer. BUT if the jobs are being outsourced, then who will pay those taxes???? This is not a book just designed to get you angry - but you will be when you read how often, for the sake of greed, the "People" (that's you and me, folks!) have been compromised. Understand, Mr. Dobbs does not pretend to have all the answers - but his book guides readers to ask the right questions. And he does provide some sound beginning and interim solutions. Problem is, he can't do it alone. Where do you stand?
