If you are ever in the Toronto area, be sure to take in Canada’s Wonderland. The kids will love to meet Yogi and Boo Boo, who often wander around the park. Wonderland is located north of Toronto and is Canada’s premiere theme park. Paramount constructed it some years ago. Wonderland, as we call it locally, consists of 330 acres filled with 180 rides and attractions. There are eight themed areas in the park that are filled with exciting things to do. Many people love rides and Wonderland has over fifty thrilling ones, eleven of which are hair-raising roller coasters. Many of these are not suitable for young children and have height specifications. The 20-acre water park is tons of fun for people of all ages. The park also has live shows, many of which feature Hannah-Barbera characters. The day I was there, Fred Flintstone was wandering the park at his leisure. A delight for young children. In 1999, Wonderland introduced several new rides. One of these is The Fly. The Fly takes you on a wild ride around hairpin turns, tight curves and speed bumps. The clincher is a fifty-foot drop. The fly is not a ride for the weak-hearted. Top Gun is the only inverted looping jet roller coaster in Canada and is themed after the Paramount movie of the same name. A great ride for those who loved the movie or who are adventurers at heart. The Vortex is a suspended coaster while SkyRider is a stand-up looping roller coaster. The Bat is a forward and backward looping roller coaster. The Dragon Fire is a double-loop steel coaster with corkscrew turns. The Wild Beast and the Mighty Canadian Minebuster are wooden coasters, the latter being the largest wooden coaster in the park. The Ghost Coaster, Taxi Jam and Thunder Run are three great coasters that the whole family will enjoy. Those who are into thrill rides will have a hey-day at Wonderland. There are twenty-eight in the park. One of the newer ones is the Drop Zone. It is Canada’s tallest free-fall ride and drops twenty-three storeys. It has a freestanding tower with open cockpit seats that drop at speeds of 80 miles per hour. Riders must be at least 137 centimetres tall to experience the thrill of the Drop Zone. Speed City Raceway is a lot of fun. Visitors can drive a gas powered Dodge Viper go-kart on a 458 metre Grand Prix track. The track features challenging turns, over and underpasses. This ride is located in Medieval Faire and has sixty two-seater units.
