THE INTERNATIONAL PEACE GARDEN

In 1962, the Royal Canadian Legion Athletic Camp was founded. Today, the International Peace Garden is recognized as one of the top youth centers in North America. Each year, thousands of students from all corners of the globe advance their skills in the performing and athletic arts.

There are a multitude of services and facilities at the International Peace Garden. Campgrounds, picnic areas, hiking trail and bike paths are available to those who enjoy the outdoors. During the summer months, Buffet/Banquet Sundays are a great hit. Be sure to visit the Chapel Bell Tower and Arboretum. Meeting and conference facilities are available. The Peace Garden Café opened in the summer of 2000. It provides soups, sandwiches, salads and desserts. The Peace Garden Gift Shop offers a wide selection of souvenirs as well as necessities.

The International Peace Garden is open all year. From mid-May to Mid-September, there is a gate attendant. Peak flower season if from the end of July until September 1st. Last year, over 150,000 annuals were planted. It is required that all visitors pass through Canadian or United States Customs when leaving the Garden.

Allow half a day to enjoy driving or walking tours. The awesome beauty of the Garden will instill a sense of peace within even the weariest visitor.

TOPIC OF THE WEEK:

This week I have chosen a great article that relates to the Canadian/US border. Be sure to read Floral Gardens Commemorate Peace written by Suite Editor Verna LaBounty of North Dakota: People and Places. The tour of this unusual garden is fantastic.
